FLORIDA TAX WATCH: ANALYZING THE GOVERNOR'S FY2018-19 BUDGET AND TAX RECOMMENDATIONS
Governor Rick Scott recently released his eighth and final budget recommendation. The $87.375 billion proposed budget will be considered by the 2018 Legislature as it develops the next state budget. The Governor's spending plan for FY2018-19 represents an increase of 2.9 percent ($2.422 billion) over current year spending. General Revenue (GR) spending of $32.182 billion would be an increase of 2.1 percent ($0.673 billion) over the current year. The Governor's budget proposal would increase total state spending by $2.4 billion, increase public school funding by $769.6 million, increase funding to the Department of Environmental Protection by nearly $300 million, add a net of 565 state employees, cut taxes by $180 million, and leave cash reserves of $1.4 billion. to find out how the Governor did this in a tight budget year, what is in the proposal and what it means for Floridians, read the November 2017 edition of the Florida TaxWatch Budget Watch here.
BUCK'S CORNER, BY BUCK MERCHANT
Guess word got back to Mom about me being mad about not going on vacation… I thought this was our little secret? Anyway, whoever the big mouth is – it turned out GREAT! Even better, the cat, “my sister”, has to stay home. Haha! I am going to run and run and sleep and sleep. Maybe I will sleep and sleep and run and sleep and sleep… Anyway, I get to go! Uncle Donny will take me for long beach walks and Mom and Aunt Lisa and all their friends will let me go inside the bars. Usually, I have to sit outside. CB is more casual. Aunt Barbara, Uncle Chris’s Mom will be there, too. She is old, so she usually stays home. If I stay home with her, she lets me sit on the couch next to her and she is a world class scratcher! I sure like her. Mom and I are driving up. I love, love, love riding in cars. Well, anything with wheels will do – just ask the mailman, the Fedex man, and a variety of golfers… So, it will take all day going up and all day going home. I will get to investigate many places along the way and leave special pee-mail messages for all the hot canine babes. Next month, I will report back on just how much fun we had. P.S. this is my Christmas picture.
